Germicidal Lighting
The main function of germicidal Ultraviolet (UV) lighting in heating and air conditioning systems is to keep your air handler free of mold, mildew, bacteria, and viruses. These micro-organisms can build up and result in air conditioner blockage and bad odors in your home. The problem is caused by moisture inside the air handler.
UV lights do not clean the air; rather they clean the air handler unit. The air handler must be cleaned thoroughly before the UV lights are installed.
Some HVAC companies use scare tactics to sell UV lighting equipment by telling customers that they are breathing mold, for instance.
